West Pennant Hills
Mid-Century Renovation

Most advice given to this wonderful client was to demolish and start again, but a long family history and a shared love of Mid-Century design helped bring this home back to life.

This was a fantastic project made even better by our lovely clients, Lisa and Richard. Their home had been in the family for generations, carrying the kind of stories and memories you simply can’t rebuild. Staying connected to their neighbourhood, long-time friends and support networks was essential as they planned the next chapter for their home.

Set on a large, irregular block in West Pennant Hills – part of Sydney’s North-West Growth Corridor and the Metro catchment – the property is wonderfully located. With shops, schools and transport all nearby, it remains an incredibly convenient place to live. Positioned deep on the block, the house also enjoys a generous rear garden that had never quite reached its potential.

Accessing that garden used to be a mission. You had to weave your way through the home, past bathrooms and the kitchen, thanks to an outdated layout from an era when back gardens were meant for kids and laundry rather than everyday living. This renovation reimagines those connections, opening the home to the outdoors and celebrating the mid-century character that makes the property so special.

The main bedroom is now situated at the front of the house in what has become affectionately known in the neighbourhood as ‘the barnacle’, an extruded form that clearly shows it is part of the new addition but mirrors the proportions of the original. Light filled spaces make Lisa and Richard’s re-imagined home a joy to live in, which has surpassed all they imagined for it.
